Bug attack

There actually wasn’t a bug attack, but I was walking around taking pictures with my camera (because I’m a geek and that’s one of the things that a geek does) and noticed a freaky looking bug on some flowers.

Because of my curiousity for wanting to know more about said bug, I decided to take a closer up picture and realized that not having a macro lens really takes the fun out of shooting bugs on flowers.

Just to give you an idea on what the bug looks like so that you can help identify the bug, I have a rotated picture for you to use.

Now it’s time for Americas favorite game name that bug.

from one walking-around-taking-pictures-of-flowers-and-noticing-bugs-geek to another: buy a better camera. It’s worth it. I’m still not on a first name basis with the bugs, but at least the pictures are better!

Barbara,

Thanks for reading.

I actually have a pretty decent camera, it’s the lens that doesn’t have the macro ability. Even a great camera is limited by the lens.

Just for you though, I’m giving a link to the image in the uncompressed JPG format in which the camera took the picture.

Hi there Michael,

I also have a pretty decent camera, but the camera is not only - as you say - limited by the lens, it’s also limited by the photographer :-) in this case me but don’t tell …

So thanks for the trouble of uploading that bug(never seen anything like it, perhaps it’s because I live in Europe and it’s too cold for exotic creatures like that in my garden) - I’m having a bit of a macro bug summer, thinking of exhibiting some of those. Do you have the opportunity to do that? It’s really fun (also for non-geeks, as I gather)

Take care,

I take a lot of pictures, I’ll start posting more online soon (lots of work interferes with my days right now).

You should share your pics.. let me know where you post them, I’m interested in seeing them.

If you need some place to share, let me know and I’ll make you some room here!

Hello Michael,
thanks me dear, thats really nice of you … haven’t really thought of things in those proportions - give me a sec and I’ll see what I can get together. At the moment I’m working on prints for local exhibitions, small scale. Base has got to fit before I can start spreading my wings and getting experimental ;-) Small town you know, don’t want to strech their patience all too much (yet)
ps: Tell me, have I been “speaking” to you in other setions of this em whatchemacallit as well or was that someone else?

Here are some of the 12 pictures I exhibited in April … as soon as I get the bugs uploaded I’ll give you a shout :-)

Wow, nice shots. Of course using the background colors as you did really alters the actual shot appearance, but I like your pics.

I’ll post some flowers pictures on here in a few minutes.

with you Michael - people (including my sis) thought I’d enhanced the pics, but all I worked with was coloured cardboard and sunlight. Not one of those shots is retouched.

Barbara, I didn’t accuse you of enhancing the pictures, only of using background colors on the pictures.
I think that you are a very good photog.

yes, the flowers do come across very differently using a monotonous and colour related bg, that was the idea and I was quite pleased as to how they came out … well the bug shots are just “normal” shots, macros of course with a very fuzzy bg, garden mostly. Haven’t gotten round to putting them up yet though. Curious to see your flower pics.

Hello Michael,

haven’t gotten very far, but I’m busy putting up the shots at

in case you wanted to have a look :-)
